TMC has been operating
in the data capture industry since 1976 offering customers high quality, state
of the art systems. They devote a large proportion of their resources to R&D
and are constantly developing new product.
Sprint are the sole
distributor for the UK and we welcome trade enquiries from organisations looking
to integrate quality European designed Data Capture Devices into their systems.
Devices
Available
Currently TMC offer
several ranges of Data Capture Terminal. The two main products are the PROX+
and TRAX+ units. Both support mag stripe, barcode and proximity readers. They
are fully programmable units via the use of the simple to set up TRAXiT
software.
Typical
uses
- Time &
Attendance systems
- Access Control
- Shop Floor Data
Collection
- Machine monitoring
Through the use of a
PSLD/3 Network Interface Unit it is possible to attach up 31 terminals together
up to 1200M distant or you can connect multiple PSLD/3 units together for even
greater flexibility!
Terminals
can be connected via several methods including EtherNet network and modems. In
this way it is possible to reduce the wiring costs dramatically compared to
traditional dedicated wiring. It may, for instance, be most economic to connect
one terminal to the EtherNet computer network whereas a second terminal is modem
connected via the internal telephone system. No other terminal range offers this
level of flexibility.
How
easy is it to use?
A major advantage with
the TMC terminals is the TRAXiT Communications Manager Software. This Windows
based application make setting up and communicating with terminals an easy task
when compared to rival systems that force the user to write applications with a
programming language. You cannot make mistakes as the software actively prevents
you from making incorrect terminal connections.
How
do I integrate TMC into my product?
Easy. If you supply a
Time & Attendance system using data capture terminals then switching to TMC
is easy. Via TRAXiT you set up the necessary parameters to cover the terminal
useage, display and communication(s) method. You then define the output file
format that your system needs. And that is it!

The PROX+ is a compact,
robust and versatile terminal with many outstanding features. There are already
many organisations relying upon this terminal to provide the information for
their Time & Attendance system.
Features
include:
- Metal casing rather
than ABS plastic for greater durability. Legible LCD display and large
keypad for ease of use.
- Numerous
Communications and I/O Ports. Either barcode, magstripe or proximity reader
options.
- RS232, RS485, Modem
and EtherNet Communication options. TRAXiT Windows based easy to operate
communications manager for batch mode use.
- 4000 transaction
capacity with 5 year data retention. Expandable internal RAM cards for
greater capacity.
- Without mains power
the terminal can function for up to 72 hours. Can be programmed in
"C" with DLL libraries available.
- Compact design fits
even the most tightest space requirements.
- Tough ABS plastic
casing.
- Dust and slash proof
Membrane Keypad guaranteed for up to 15 million operations.
- Barcode or Magstripe
readers available.
- Supertwist LCD
display either 2x16 or 4x16.
- 32 KB RAM for data.
- The same firmware as
found its larger brother the PROX+ terminal enabling both designs to be used
together.
- Ability to connect
via TRAXiT onto RS485, modem or EtherNet Networks.
- Can be programmed in
"C" with DLL libraries available.

- TRAXiT the visual
tool which is easy and intuitive to use. Define the physical configuration
of any TMC terminal.
- TRAXiT helps in the
plant definition, setting the correct defaults and avoiding
"impossible" connections.
- Configure the
operation mode of the terminals from the information shown to the format of
recorded data.
- Define the export
format of collected data to make it compatible with any T&A system.
- A graphical
interface allows you to use a "Drag & Drop" mechanism to
describe system topology and define connections among different devices.
- TRAXiT is a 32 bit
application and runs on Windows 98, NT and 20000 operating systems.
The EtherBox EtherNet
Communications Interface uses TCP/IP protocol and allows the PROX and/or TRAX
terminals to be connected to an existing EtherNet network thus saving money
against traditional wiring schemes.
Up to 31 devices can be
connected to one EtherBox via RS485 multidrop thus the TMC EtherNet solution is
one of the most cost effective ones available compared to rival offerings.

The PSLD/3 connects to
a PC and provides communications for up to 31 TMC terminals with a maximum cable
length of 1200 metres. Several PSLD/3 units can be connected together to provide
a massive 254 terminal capacity! Standard Belden STP cable is used thus making
this a low cost wiring solution.
As with all TMC
hardware this device can be set up by the TRAXiT software.
